AUTUMN NEWSLETTER

It’s hard to believe that summer is nearly over and that autumn is approaching, but each season brings its own excitement and possibilities and this autumn we have lots to look forward to.

Before we leave summer behind we thought you might like to read what Martin had to say about our trip to visit our Australian supplier this August:

Pettavel SignPettavel Sign

“It was a surprise to find such low temperatures in the South of Australia, even though we knew it was their winter.  Daytime maximums were around 12 degrees C, and it was not uncommon to find frost on the ground in the mornings. There had been record snowfalls on the mountains in New South Wales, and rainfall in many areas had been well above average, which was welcome news for all those in agriculture, including vineyards.
The vineyard where our wines are made for Kadonga Creek is called Pettavel, situated in Geelong, south of Melbourne. This is an impressive estate, and the restaurant served a fantastic range of local food to accompany the wine. The range of wines was extensive, including Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Semillon, Viognier, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.
There was great importance put on producing balanced wines that exuded fruit character, without being too heavy on the oak or tannins. In general the 2009 vintage was poor, so we will be looking to move straight on to the great 2010 vintage when the 2008s have gone.

The winery had a well established water recycling system that allowed for the vineyards to be kept healthy through dry summers.  This has become a critical issue for many winegrowing regions in the country, and investment in good water management systems is essential to the survival of the industry.
Following our visit I am convinced that Australian wines are on the up. The styles are changing in order to suit the more sophisticated palate that is emerging in the UK, alcohols are reducing slightly and a better balance is being achieved.  We hope to expand our range of Australian wines listed in 2011.”

NEW PRODUCTS

We have an exciting new product to introduce, although at first glance it might not seem so to wine lovers!
Having been asked by some of our customers for a good quality low alcohol wine, we have developed a wine that sits happily on the table for those who can’t or don’t want to drink wine with alcohol in it.

Our new low alcohol wine (0.5%) is refreshing and pleasant to drink, having been carefully balanced so that it is not too sweet, has body and retains wine characteristics.

Please contact Karen for more details and samples.

EVENTS

We have been to London for the Wines of Chile Annual Tasting. It was great to meet up with so many of you and to be able to show case our fantastic range of Chilean Wines from the Aromo Vineyards in the Maule Valley.
If you weren’t able to make it and would like to try our range please get in touch and Karen will arrange to visit you or send you our List.

We’ve just returned from the Restaurant Show at Earls Court, we had a great three days and were so pleased to see many of you there. We took a range of our wines from Chile, Argentina, South Africa and Australia, and had some very positive feedback from the tastings.

CHRISTMAS

We have some fabulous offers running up to Christmas -  warming ruby red Mulled wine, great for bonfire night and of course for Christmas gatherings, our delicious Aromo Cabernet Sauvignon, mouth-watering Aromo Artemisa Late Harvest and our beautiful English Sparkling wine for all those parties!

We also have some handy recipe suggestions to go with our wonderful Aromo Carménère, (curry and Carmenere!!) and also the Artemisa late harvest; we’ll pop some of them in with your order.

Well that’s it for now; we look forward to hearing from you soon.

PostHeaderIcon Newsletter July 2010

Welcome to our first newsletter!Aromo Barrel Selection Chardonnay

We have lots of things happening this summer and we’d like to share some of it with you.

First of all the budget – no duty raises this time – hurrah!

However wine prices have risen in all countries due to small crops, natural disasters and an increase in demand. Chilean bulk wine has doubled since the quake, but we have secured good supplies with our partners in Chile and should be able to hold prices, as long as the US dollar does not collapse!

CHILE

The prize winning Aromo winery has done it again, winning a Gold medal in the International Wine Challenge 2010 for their luscious Barrel Selection Chardonnay. We will be bringing plenty in on our next container!

International Wine Challenge 2010 GoldQuote from the Judges
Buttery colour with lovely, complex nose and palate. tropical fruit spectrum with well integrated oak is balanced by steely minerality leading to a long, rewarding finish.

We picked up the award on Wednesday 30th June in London.

There are several wines of Chile events coming up, Dorset Seafood Festival on the 10th and 11th July, The Taste of Birmingham food and drink festival from the 16th to the 18th July and the Wines of Chile Annual Trade tasting in London on the 8th September. Also Luis Noziglia the export manager for Aromo is coming to the U.K in September, if anyone local to this event would like a visit and a tasting, we can try to arrange something.

Aromo has a long list of award winning wines this year details of which are on their website:   www.elaromo.cl

New Wines and Vintages

Chile

From July we’re introducing Oyster Shack Chardonnay 2010 to our Oyster Shack range.

This wine is a clean, fresh, full bodied Chardonnay with tropical fruit character balanced with a degree of crispness on the finish.

We also have new vintages (2010) of Arena Negra and Oyster Shack Sauvignon Blanc on their way. We will have dates of availability in our next Newsletter, or contact Karen for an update.

Sales material

We have tent cards for Aromo, Oyster Shack and Arena Negra wines and Aromo leaflets and corkscrews. If you are interested please let Karen know.

Australia

The Australian wines have also increased in price, but by reverting to UK bottling for the Kadonga range we will be able to hold prices on these as well. The wine was shipped at great expense in a stainless steel tanker, and this has helped to preserve great fruit character and freshness.

We will be visiting our Australian supplier in August and will be looking at the possibility of expanding our range. If you have any particular requirements or suggestions, we would be happy to hear them.

We are excited to say that the Kadonga Creek Shiraz 2008 is now available, and it has a lovely deep purple red colour, rich, ripe minty Shiraz aroma, delivering a smooth classic wine with ‘full on’ fruit, a big rounded mouth feel and a long finish.

South Africa

We know that England are now out of the cup, but keep your spirits up with

Our South African Silwerboom Chenin Blanc and Pinotage

On offer for July, call Karen on 07595564687 for details!
